Message from Frances Coates, Administrator
Refurbishing Families and friends are encouraged to ‘adopt a room’ at the Center. This project is a wonderful
opportunity to make a big difference. To adopt a room costs $1,000.00. This helps us meet the specific needs of the room,
such as put a new sink and faucet in the room, new flooring, new furniture, paint the walls, new bedding and curtains,
revamp the bathrooms or whatever is needed. The Center puts the name of the donor on a gold plaque on the door and has
an ‘Open House’ in June. Refreshments will be served and all donors are invited, recognition is given in the newspapers,
and in two newsletters. This project is done every five years. Some of the rooms have been adopted by Clubs, some as
memorials; some have been adopted by families or individuals. Call me at 828-582-6573.
Thirty Year Anniversary - This was an incredible event that even the rain
couldn’t slow down! Over 140 visitors came to celebrate with us. There was a
lot of excitement, cool motorcycles, good music and some very lucky winners of
our raffles, bingo and walkabout. Over $1,700 was raised for the Center’s
special needs fund. Many of our residents are very self-sufficient but, as in all
communities, there are those that need assistance. This fund purchases clothing,
outings, or whatever is needed for residents that don’t have enough funds. Did
anyone see me @ 7:20 a.m. on Friday morning? Channel 40, WLOS. 30th Anniversary T-shirts are still available! If
you think you have missed out and did not get your
shirt, it's not too late. We have a variety of sizes
available, starting at $10 and up. Please contact
Deniece and let her know the sizes and how many
you would like to buy. All funds will go to the
Resident's Special Needs Fund.
Over 200 mums were planted throughout the grounds. Lion DC Cantrell kept them coming! Lion Jack Keys donated
therapeutic exercise equipment that is valued over $3,000. Many thanks to these wonderful Lions.
The trail outside is finished with a bridge, fire pit, benches, and much more! The Sandhill Lions have also made major
contributions to the beauty of the Center. They finished the bridge and provided our activity department with a fire pit for
cook outs. Lion Marcia Henderson of the Mills River Lion’s Club created a beautiful sign that hangs by the bridge that
tells the history of our Center. This trail will be incorporated in our future activities. It is also a wonderful benefit to our
residents.
McCune Holidays are ready to take off! The Center is one of the best spots for Holidays. So many wonderful people and
wonderful things will be going on. There is an opportunity for everyone to participate in the fun. We need lots of candy
and costume items for the Trick or Treater’s that will be coming to visit us on Halloween Night. Please donate treats and
come for a safe, fun Halloween with lots of yummy treats. I will be dressed up as well as many of our residents and staff.
A Thanksgiving Banquet is being offered the Thursday before Thanksgiving to all of our families. It’s a potluck with the
Turkey, stuffing, potatoes, green beans, pumpkin pies and drinks provided by the Center. Please bring your best dish and
celebrate with us. We have so much to be thankful for. Christmas donation letters are going out. All of our residents
Christmas gifts come from the kindness and generosity of these donations. Please be generous. Every year in the past we
have had $50.00 per resident to spend for gifts. If you’d like to schedule a party let Deniece, our activity director, know
as soon as you can. Her extension number is14, her cell phone is 702-2760. One year we had seventeen Christmas parties!
Hope to see everyone in the next several months.

Bring the kids, invite your friends and family members. We provide

The residents love this opportunity to participate with the children
by handing out candy in the hallways.
A McCune Thanksgiving
It is a tradition for us to honor Thanksgiving, as a McCune Center family, on the 3rd
Thursday of November at 12:00 noon. This year is no exception, so we want to
encourage you to participate by bringing your favorite holiday dish. The Center will
provide the Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, pumpkin pies and drinks
but you are asked to bring other side dishes and those tasty desserts.
Again, this is on Thursday , November 19th at noon. The residents look forward to
this special occasion and the opportunity to have you come to "their house" for
Thanksgiving Dinner.
